Budlong Woods and West Englewood were completed in 2003.
In 2000, Kessler analyzed the feasibility of transforming existing Chicago Public Library prototype designs into more environmentally conscious and energy-efficient LEED-certified buildings. Based on her analysis, the City proceeded with a program to upgrade all of the new public libraries to achieve LEED certification. Kessler subsequently led the sustainable design efforts on the first two prototypical LEED libraries. In the process of working on these projects, she trained numerous city professionals, architects, the contractor and project managers in sustainable design and LEEDTM.
The library prototype program led to prototype programs for all new Chicago police and fire stations. Both libraries achieved LEED Certification.
