Museum of Broadcast Communications, Chicago, IL
Client: Eckenhoff Saunders Architects, Architect of Record
In July 2003, Kessler led a sustainable design charrette resulting in the museum president declaring his commitment to build a LEED Gold resource efficient building. HJKessler Associates guides the design team – including owner, architect, engineers and contractor – in making decisions affecting sustainability, energy efficiency and building commissioning. Kessler assisted in writing a grant proposal which resulted in a $1.3 million grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation. The 60,000 square foot project was designed using an integrated approach, will be at least 30% more efficient than the energy code and will include interactive exhibits to educate the public with respect to sustainable design.
